Post 2 :: The Quantum Physics of Divination

Written by Jillian Walker

Hi Beloved, I’m Jillian Rootwalker, a performing artist and shamanic student devoted to bringing myself and others back to the root of healing and truth through the power of creative unfolding.

And then, And then —

And then you give it a title.

THE QUANTUM PHYSICS OF DIVINATION

And then, And then, you begin to see what it means. Or, you don’t. You start some other Way, or, you never “start.” You never take a first breath; have a beginning, because continuity is such that ‘beginning’ really only has one origin.

And you weren’t here for that One.

But, you also were.

You were just a particle—an electron. And Now, you continue, just like you all ways have.

Scientists, by the way, have no idea why electrons behave the way they do at the particular level. They have guesstimates, which, I think, shows the Art in everything.^1

And the uselessness of not valuing our art.

I’m curious if electrons may also have souls. Or, perhaps Free Will that allows them to make their own choices. If they make choices, then we know that, of course, we can only have probability, which can then be ordered into Divination; a set of probabilities organized through a channel, a photograph, a poem; a tarot, bone, water, fire, or sand reading, that, of course, is always responsive to the Free Will of the being and beings that surround its Being in all realms and dimensions.

The web of all relationalities, so to speak.

This is why,

This is how the future is not fixed.

As I have written before—the “future” is not a destination as is often touted and shouted in speeches from various podiums about the devastation of the climate or the filibuster.^1

I had the honor of visiting the long overdue Afrofuturist Period Room at The Met museum in New York and watched several a patron enter—in their breathing masks (missing that irony)—look, pause and confusedly exclaim, I don’t get it, where is the future? As the room does not contain several spacey objects, knobs and weird sounds; but a hearth-centered kitchen with drying herbs hanging on ropes, books on the small living room shelf, queer self-portraits, and Cameroonian and Xulu Art made of wood and beads. I watched many a western-educated soul, students and ibelievethechildrenareourfuture teachers, huff and puff out of the room or quickly move through without Seeing a thing.

Without knowing how to See.

And it is not their fault—our fault—that we do not know, did not know, have not known.

And now, what will we choose?

What will we Will?

The future is a relational practice of Now.

The future is a co-created set of decisions,

Of happenings and loved-out-loud questions

in the only moment where there is breath.

I am not able to tell you your future; not exactly, though I am learning the art of Divination, as I have been asked by my Ancestors to take responsibility for my traditional talents and cultural practices.

The role of the Art is to serve the receiver in their own choices. It is to illuminate the cosmic web and bring awareness to the relationships that are singing through the strings of time—particular the time of the Ancients and the wise ones.

Then, it ends and the receiver makes decisions. “Whatever you touch, you change.” The diviner and the receiver are changed by the future as the future becomes the present and the present the past.

It is willed by us what the future is. What we are choosing Now is the Future.

:: There is always a set of endlessly relational options, decisions, beliefs, denials, sport and holes — a spectrum of possibilities to slip into a completely different Life. ::

And that is beautiful,

For us and for yes, those children, too.

It is beautiful—gorgeous—and so explosive.

Excruciating.

If electron particles possess Free Will, perhaps it only takes the belief of one electron to throw the universe into or out of balance.

Balance, then, is also not fixed, of course.

Balance is a relational motion-state in the web of spacetime. What is being related to whenwhere.

With Why, of course, left to the Free Will of US, and maybe also electrons, to decide.

So how do you choose your future?

What do you choose?

My teacher tells me that the Ancestors, yes, have lived their lives, yes, they have wisdom from the most recent generations to the first of our kind and beyond that kind to the beginning. Yes.

But/And/Also it is our turn to live. It is our turn to make our choices. Our will belongs to us.

What will you choose to think eat practice

           Believe speak

           withhold promise

           Ask keep

           Make     be

?

Choices are never in isolation because isolation is not a state of natural law.

Somewhere we forgot that natural laws themselves are not choices.

Sometimes I wish I could show you what the Future holds to assuage your suffering.

But there is no holding in what has yet to exist. That which is perpetually emerging is a container that we can only capture ourselves inside of in movement.

Sometimes I wish I could anyway. I would hold a baby rattle or teething ring in your squinted face and offer you comfort.

But teething rings do not take away the pushing of bone through the gums. A feeling you either have never felt before or one that you could never prepare for enough, tryasyoumight.

Rattles, rings, do not mitigate the pain of growth.

So perhaps, shift your relationship to the

       U n k n o w n

To the fright inside your belly

       When something changes

Try the utterance of a welcome

As the tears come anyway

Let them drop

   Anyway

There-there, beloved.

There, there.

There’s this probability function, at one point, but if you measure it and you accept the idea that the particle is in no particular place to begin with, then it is snapping into definite existence at the point of measurement. See, the many worlds theory of quantum physics.
