How Not to Spiritually Bypass with Ancestors – Watch Video

Wohoo! Welcome to the first-ever ROOTVlog! In this video I dive into:

  • What spiritual bypassing with ancestors can look like and
  • What to do instead.
  • Only calling in and on Ancestors of “love and light” is a missed opportunity for healing. I’m going to tell you why and just kick up some different perspectives on the “darkness” than the ones I typically see in the ancestral healing space.

I hope you find this to be useful medicine for your path.

ENJOY!

Hey beloved. Hello? Hello. Okay. This is my first vlog attempt, um, for Jillianrootwalker.com. I am Jillian RootWalker. I am an in student shaman student of the path of Ubungoma, which is a south African tradition, um, constantly re-indigenizing and following the path that the ancestors are guiding me on.

Um, also an artist, um, mostly have played in the realm of perform throughout my career with a little bit of visual art and other things that, um, movement all of these things that obviously make their way into the work. Um, and my artistic path has really guided me deeper into ancestral healing and into, uh, becoming a traditional healer in the Ubungoma tradition. So that’s a little bit about me, um, who I am, where I am at this particular moment that you are seeing this video. And, um, yeah, I have this blog, this blog <laugh> this rootblog. And, um, something that I’ve been wanting to do is also just include video, include vlogs as a part of it.

Um, I am a writer, so I love working in that medium, but I also enjoy a video. Um, and I know that other people do too. So that’s a little bit of an introduction, um, to this first vlog.

And today I’m gonna talk just a little bit about spirit bypassing with ancestors, um, and what that can look like. So there are a lot of different ways that that can look and today I’m mostly focusing on, um, just some things that I feel like people miss when we are calling in ancestors for support or for guidance. Um, and we specifically focus on the ancestors of love and light or the ancestors of the light, or, you know, the ancestors who, who only come with goodness or these sorts of things. <affirmative> now I absolutely understand why we do that.

Um, I wanna just acknowledge that there’s, there’s dark energy. It’s a part of actually what, in my opinion, and in my experience thus far, it’s a part of what holds the multiverse, the universe. It’s a part of, you know, I mean, we literally there’s dark matter. We have no idea what it is and <laugh> how it functions. We just know that it’s important. <affirmative> and there’s darkness, right? There’s, there’s dark energy, there’s shadow. Um, in the U Goma tradition, we speak about shadow as something that we it’s important to call back, right, to call back that from wandering through the lineage, unacknowledged and unaddressed, and a part of what we do in ancestral healing is we work to elevate that shadow energy, which means first that we have to acknowledge that it’s present. So what I’m saying is, um, partly that when you want to be working with ancestors, when you’re interested in healing your lineage, um, by working, you know, with these beautiful parts of our, of our lineage and of ourselves, because we are our ancestors, um, and you’re only calling forward the love and the light and completely disregarding shadow or refusing even to acknowledge that shadow is a thing that exists. Um, it just continues to create, um, holes in the lineage.

And, you know, an example for me personally, is a particular ancestor that I was really nervous about calling on, because I know that, you know, he had done not all good things in his life as most humans have not done. Right. Um, we’ve all done. Some dirt, we’ve all made mistakes. Um, it is literally a part of what it means to be a human. And so I had been really, um, really pushing away calling on him. I had his photograph, you know, um, at one point and I had like put the photograph away. I was just like, I don’t really want anything do with this man. Um, you know, I just sense, like, there’s some, there’s some energy there, right? That isn’t all good energy. And then I reached a part in my process and in my own healing journey where I knew that it was important to connect with him. And what I learned through that experience is that his shadows had medicine for me, that the things that he was teaching me really were about me and were about things that I was afraid to face within myself. So, um, you know, often when we’re getting into ancestral work, we don’t wanna acknowledge like the ancestors who, you know, stole other people’s land or who, um, <affirmative>, you know, committed a crime or which, I mean stealing land as a crime, but you know, other crimes. And, um, we feel, we feel nervous about that, right? Um, this often acknowledges that there’s a bypassing that we’re doing and not acknowledging the parts of ourselves that are the crime either are the criminal or the parts of ourselves that, um, you know, maybe you <laugh>, you haven’t literally stolen land, but you have you part right in these systems that, that continue to, um, enact these types of behaviors.

So, um, the way that we can begin to on an ancestral level, clear these things and actually elevate them is not only to call on the love and the light of the ancestors, but to call on the medicine that they have for us and medicine, doesn’t always taste good, like Robitussin, disgusting. Um, I don’t know, whatever else, like new cough syrup is out there. I haven’t taken cough syrup long time, but I’m sure it still doesn’t taste good. Um, we, what I would encourage is not only to work with, or to call upon love and light or ancestors who only come with goodness, but really to call forward the medicine that your lineage needs both to incorporate and to heal and to elevate.

So that’s just a little bit, um, there’s like way more to dive into with this topic, but I just want to leave that for you as food for thought medicine for thought, um, and for are incorporating into your meditations or into, you know, whatever practices you’re doing right now, alter work, um, that deal with your ancestors. And, you know, we can always make sure that we are, um, coming to this work in a stay, or we feel grounded so that, you know, if there are, if there is stuff that arises that doesn’t feel good or that feels uncomfortable, we know that we’re capable of holding that. And this is also just a part of not spiritually bypassing, right? In order for us to really, um, know our resilience and our strength, we need to know that we can face the dark and that we can face the shadows. It doesn’t mean that every single time we have to be like working with really deep dark things. Um, but just remember that the roots are all in the dark. That’s where roots live <laugh>. So we’re gonna have to encounter it sometime, beloveds. Okay. All right. Have a beautiful day night, whatever you and wherever you are in time and space, when you receive this message and I’m Jillian RootWalker, see you again soon. Yay. Vlog! I did it. <laugh>
